Moon Valley Maple Syrup Comes Direct From Titus Mountain Slopes

Things were mighty sweet this spring at Titus Mountain in Malone, N.Y. The mountain is home to the brand new Moon Valley Maple Syrup operation.

The foundation for the sugar house was poured in early January and, by March, the ski resort was producing high quality maple syrup. State-of-the-art processes are used from start to finish, say sugarhouse operators, so that the quality and consistency of the product is ensured.

They explain that their sugarbush forest stand “is blessed with purse mountain air, well-drained soil, and a gradient that is ideal to support sap collection from our maple trees.”

Moon Valley Maple Syrup ran about 6,400 taps this first season, producing 2,000 gallons of maple syrup. The plan is to grow the number of taps to 7,000 next spring.

A plastic gallon of syrup goes for $45, while a half-gallon is priced at $29. It is available at the ski area, 215 Johnson Road, in Malone and at seven Mountain Mart stores in the area.
