Midwest Resorts To Host Special Women's Clinics
Women are taking center stage at several ski areas around the Heartland over the next few weeks as seven resorts are hosting female specific events and clinics this coming weekend and next month. Leading off are a couple Indiana ski areas, Perfect North Slopes and Paoli Peaks, which are hosting events this weekend.
Perfect North is hosting a women’s ski clinic Sunday, Jan. 25, for intermediate and advanced female skiers. A prerequisite is that you can use a wedge to control speed, turn and stop. The two-hour clinic is taught by female instructors in supportive, small group sessions. Cost is $45.
Paoli Peaks is hosting aLadies Night, Saturday, Jan. 24, from 8 p.m.-3 a.m. Lift Tickets are just $5, and a lift and rental package is $35. Beginner group lessons can be added for $10.
Michigan’s Boyne Highlands is holding a Your Turn Women’s Ski Clinic with former U.S. Ski Team member Lisa Densmore Jan. 30-31, for intermediate and advanced skiers. The weekend begins with a boot fitting analysis Friday night followed by a meet and greet with the Women’s Pro Ski Tour veteran. Saturday’s session includes trends in women’s ski gear, demo ski tryouts, four hours of skiing instruction with individual video analysis including lunch and a après ski reception. A Saturday night dinner with Densmore, who has spent 20 years as a coach and ski instructor, is optional. The popular coach has taught over 6,000 women during that time. Mt. Brighton holds the Women’s Ski Academy every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for all ability levels. It was designed by women and taught by female ski instructors. The price per session is $69, and there’s a discounted rental package of $14 for ski school participants.
Ohio’s Mad River Mountain hosts the Snow Angels Program, an all women ski and ride instructional and social program, for all ability levels every Sunday from noon-3 p.m. The cost is $20 per session. The price includes three hours of instruction and an afternoon snack. Lift tickets and rental equipment, if needed, are extra.
Minnesota’sAfton Alps is hosting Ski Girls Rock, a program designed by Lindsey Vonn, who grew up in the Gopher State. For girls ages seven through the teens who are intermediates and up, the three day program takes place Feb. 14-16 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $270 for lift, lesson and lunch, and $210 for just the lesson and lunch. Participants will get to meet and greet Vonn when she comes to the Alps for a special Ski Girls Rock closing party.
Missouri’s Hidden Valley hostsWomen’s Wednesdays Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 from 2-7 p.m. The individual sessions are $25 where you enjoy eight hours of skiing and riding with lessons and the company of like-minded women. They also holdLadies Saturday Nights Jan. 24 and Feb. 7, 21 and 28 from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Lift tickets are just $5 and a lift and rental equipment is $35.
