Midwest Resorts Ready To Celebrate Holidays

Skiing Santa (Shanty Creek)

The long range forecast looks good for a snowy holiday across the Heartland, and the good news for skiers and snowboarders is some destination ski resorts are offering lift and lodging deals through the holidays.

Shanty Creek kicks off the holiday period with Sardine Day, Friday, Dec. 20. Pack as many friends as you can into your car, it’s $49 per car load. No busses please. Ski/ride Christmas Day with Santa for free. Shanty asks that you bring non-perishable food items, winter clothing or household items to benefit the Father Fred Foundation. Try out the latest gear on Demo Day at Schuss Mountain, Monday, Dec. 30, from 9 a.m-4 p.m.

New Year’s Eve ski and ride for free on Summit slopes, 6:30-11 p.m. Enjoy fireworks over the slopes at midnight. An adult New Year's Eve party takes place at Schuss’ Ivan’s Mountainside Grill. There’s a $5 cover charge. A family party and dinner will be held in the Lakeview Hotel and Conference Center at the Summit. Adults, $55, seniors, $53, children (6-12) $20, and children five and under are free.

The resort features live entertainment throughout the holidays. Demo day takes place Saturday, Dec. 29. New Year’s Eve parties culminate with a torchlight parade and fireworks over the slopes.

Unlimited Ski & Ride Packages start from $139 per adult, per night.  Children eight and under sleep, ski/ride and eat breakfast free when staying with adults. Spend four nights and get a fifth night free Dec. 25-Jan. 3.

Time is running out on Ski Brule’s advance online lift ticket sale. They can be purchased online through Dec. 24 for $35 each. The window rate will be $45 this season.

Brule has daily night skiing and riding throughout the holidays. There’s a tree decorating social, marshmallow roasts, live music nightly in the Brule Saloon, tubing and sleigh rides, a New Year’s dinner and Homestead BBQs on selected nights. A torchlight parade followed by fireworks takes place New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. Holiday lodging rates start from $138 for two people. A two-night minimum stay is required.

Wisconsin’s Devil’s Head Resort is hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration. The cost is $498 per person, which includes three nights of lodging, three dinners in the Cornucopia Room (one of my favorite Midwest resort restaurants), two breakfasts or lunches if you’re a late riser, a Strawberry Champagne Brunch New Year’s Day, daily lift tickets, and a free bottle of champagne.
