Thanksgiving Weekend is when Midwest resorts have high hopes to kickoff the ski season. Frequently it happens, but not always. A handful of Heartland ski resorts are scheduling weekend events in anticipation.
Boyne Mountain hopes to be open for the season and will be hosting a variety of Thanksgiving family activities Nov. 26-29, including Zipline Adventure Tours, Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, Michigan beer and wine tasting events, Adventure Camp for the kids, free sleigh rides and bonfires with free s’mores. Everett’s will be serving a Thanksgiving buffet. Lodging packages are available.
Crystal Mountain, Nov. 26-29, will be hosting a Thanksgiving Family Reconnect Weekend with planned activities including, a Turkey Vulture 5K run/walk, a Thanksgiving Day buffet, lighting the resort for the holidays, and Holiday Trail Celebration. Skiing and riding will be dependent on weather conditions. The resort is offering 25 percent off peak season rates on select dates throughout the season in limited quantities.
Treetops is again kicking off the season with a festive family event, Lighting of the Trees Weekend, Nov. 27-28. There will be tree lighting ceremonies both nights, wagon rides, gingerbread man decorating contests, elves on stilts, kid’s crafts and pictures with Santa. Hunter’s Grille is hosting a homemade craft bazaar. A Black Friday Getaway is available starting from $99 lodging including breakfast.
Ski Brule, which plans to open for the season Nov. 13, will be hosting their 25th Thanksgiving Race Camp Nov. 26-29. Fees are $60 per day or $220 all four days. Regarded as one of the top camps in the Heartland they have always been able to provide lift served trails for training. It’s geared towards age and ability and provides small group training. Thanksgiving dinner will be available in the lodge. Lodging packages are available over the holidays.
Lutsen Mountains has scheduled Nov. 20-22 as opening day weekend with an Opening Weekend Lift/Lodging special, two nights, two days lift tickets from $119 per person. The resort’s Thanksgiving Festival, including events along the North Shore, is Nov. 25-30 with half-price lift, lodging and equipment specials. New Standards Holiday Show, now in its ninth year, is slated for Friday, Nov. 27 at Papa Charlies. Tickets are $18 in advance and $24 at the door.
