Make The Swap: Affordable Gear Finds At Ski Swaps
You'll find gear to put a smile on your face at the Vail Ski Swap. (Vail Ski and Snowboard Club)
As we’re preparing for ski and board season, it’s time to think about upgrading our gear or selling some of your old stuff, and fall ski swaps are a great way to make that happen.
Jackson Hogen of RealSkiers has some great tips on getting not only getting a good deal, but finding equipment you can use at ski swaps. “When it comes to the secondary market, the swap offers the old-fashioned virtue of being able to hold the item in one’s hand or on one’s feet, rather than the all the unknown evils that lurk in the digital swamp.”
Here are a few of SnoCountry’s favorites to discover great deals on equipment to get you ready for the season:
Find new and used gear at the Vail Ski Swap, Oct. 23-25, presented by Vail Ski & Snowboard Club, Dobson Ice Arena, Vail. Products include alpine, snowboard, telemark and Nordic equipment. Percentage of sale benefits Vail Ski & Snowboard Club.
October is ski swap season at Utah’s 2nd Tracks, in Salt Lake Oct. 7-9, Ogden Oct. 21-23 and Orem Oct. 28-29. It’s almost a party disguised as a sale, with so much inventory it spills out into the parking lot. The shop's goal has always been to recycle people's unused/unwanted quality gear and get it into the hands of someone who will really use and appreciate it.
The Wachusett Columbus Day Swap and Sale, Oct. 6-10, is the perfect chance to upgrade your gear for the coming winter. Used equipment deals as well as gear from local retailers. For more than just a shopping trip, take a scenic summit SkyRide and grab lunch at the Mountainside BBQ.
New Hampshire’s Gunstock hosts the Gunstock Ski Club Ski and Snowboard Sale Nov. 5, one the largest events of its kind in New England. Get expert buying advice from local ski shops and the Gunstock Ski Club's coaching staff to get ready for fun on the snow.
