Maine Resorts Revel In Holiday Snowfall

Maine’s Sugarloaf and Sunday River are reaping the benefits of a holiday week storm and the start to a very happy new year.

With two to three feet of snow falling during the holiday week, and more snow in the forecast, conditions continue to offer up great skiing and riding.

Sunday River is now boasting 780 acres of open terrain – the most in New England. Last week’s Nor’easter dumped 24 inches of snow on the resort, bringing the season total to 64 inches.  “We’ve already surpassed the season total for last year,” Sunday River’s Darcy Lambert told SnoCountry.com. “As the storm hit the pent-up demand from skiers and riders brought a great holiday week, with the enthusiasm continuing in to the weekend and even Monday.”

That enthusiasm and pent up demand was in evidence Friday, Dec. 30, as Sunday River broke their record for the most lift tickets ever sold.

At Sugarloaf, snow totals reached nearly three feet during the holiday week, and the white gold continues to fall.

“We received 30 inches on the mountain and 24 inches at the base last week,” Sugarloaf’s Noelle Tuttle told us. “We had a great week, and it was mostly snow driven. Our reservations department had a record day on Saturday and January is strong, with more snow in the forecast. Everyone is really excited and eager to get on the slopes.”

Sugarloaf’s snow total is up to 78 inches for the season, compared to only 22 inches this time during last year’s lackluster snow season.

The earlier you buy, the more you save. At Sugarloaf you can grab a three-day lift ticket online for next weekend for $185.
