Mad River Mountain Rail Jam Nov. 4; Other Midwest Open Houses Set
Ohio’s Mad River Mountain, home hill to Olympian Louie Vito, will be hosting the Heartland’s first rail jam Nov. 4. Last year’s event was a huge hit, and over 400 people have already confirmed on MRM’s Facebook page they will be there for the “throw down.” The ski area’s annual Ski Patrol Ski Swap will be taking place inside the lodge.
Outside on the hill in front of the Loft Deck, a three-rail set up built over 50,000 tons of ice shavings will be hosting the season’s first pre-season rail jam. It’s a chance to get those first hits of the new season.
The area was busy over the summer with several projects. A new natural glade was created by clearing the underbrush between Sugarbush and Capital Park. The three-tiered, tree-lined terrain will be narrower than Sidewinder Glade and only open with natural snowfall. New trail signage was created utilizing old rental snowboards.
The recycling effort, believed to be the first of its kind in the industry, is to be featured in a future issue of Ski Area Management magazine. A new locker room area was created, and over 100 seats and 15 new tables were added in the Den. It will be a welcome addition to those who like to picnic.
