Loveland, Arapahoe Basin May Start Making Snow This Week

Loveland Ski Area

Loveland Ski Area high atop the Continental Divide along Interstate 70 could crank up its snowmaking system later this week after a substantial coating of new snow fell on its slopes on Sunday.

“There is a chance -- probably a good one -- that we will start this week,” Loveland marketing director John Sellers said in an email to RealAspen.com on Monday. “No definitive timetable yet, but we should know more soon.”

Loveland got about four inches of new snow at the base, with more up top. Aspen-area ski resorts saw around five inches of new snow from Sunday's storm.

"The first significant snowfall of the year always gets skiers and snowboarders fired up for the season – digging out winter clothing, dusting off gear and even a few watching the Broncos beat the Raiders tonight while breaking in ski boots," Aspen Skiing Company spokesman Jeff Hanle said in an email blast.
