Lift Ticket Deals Still Abound At Montana Ski Areas


Season pass deals at Montana ski resorts may have ended, but a number of good lift ticket deals remain. Frequent skier cards, packs and punch cards can substantially lower your daily lift ticket cost. Check them out.

Whitefish Mountain, scheduled to open Dec. 7, cut four new runs on north side of ski area and put in a 1,200-foot addition to the Base Lodge adding 100 new seats and warming space area. Whitefish offers a Frequent Skier Card, available through Dec. 24, which costs $50. It allows an adult pass holder to purchase a daily lift ticket for $45. A teen daily lift ticket with the card is $42 this season, and juniors (7-12) are $22. Daily adult lift tickets are $69 this coming season, teens $62, and juniors $36.

Big Sky, now the largest ski resort in the USA with the acquisition of neighbors Moonlight Basin and Spanish Peaks this past summer, has a Sky Card for $179. It allows 14 days of free skiing, Dec. 2-8 and April 14-20, half-price week, Jan. 6-12, and $20 off the regular season rate any other time. The Sky Card also offers lodging discounts and 10-percent off retail items at Big Sky owned outlets. The daily lift rate this season is adults $99. Opening day is set for Nov. 28. Lift tickets are $40 during the resort's 40th anniversary Dec. 13-15.

Red Lodge, located in the southeast corner of the Treasure State and popular with Heartland skiers and riders from the Dakotas, Minnesota and Iowa, has 6-Tix and 10-Tix passes. It allows you six or 10 days of skiing anytime throughout the season. Individual cost for the 6-Tix is adult $240, junior (13-18) $205, and child (6-12) $105. For the 10-Tix it’s respectively $365, $320 and $165. They can be reloaded anytime during the season at the same discounted rate.  Adult daily lift tickets are $50 this season. Opening day is set for Nov. 29.

Discovery, slated to open Nov. 28, offers a package of five transferable lift tickets through Dec. 25, which is $190. A 10-pack, available for children and seniors only, is also $190. Adult full day daily lift rates are $40 this season.

Montana Snowbowl is selling lift ticket coupons through Dec. 1 that save you $8 per lift ticket. They are good anytime during the season, are transferable and you can buy as many as you like prior to above date. An adult coupon is $36, student and senior coupons are $33 each and child (6-12) is $11.  An adult lift ticket is $44 this season. Improvements were made to the access road during the off season. Snowbowl expects to open on weekends Dec. 6 and daily Dec. 20.

Showdown is bringing back the Showup Card, which is available for $95 through Dec. 5. The card provides three adult lift tickets, which can be used anytime during the season and are transferable. They only print 1,000 cards each season and once they are gone that’s it. An adult lift ticket is $40 this season, which is slated to start Dec. 6. There was a mountain wide thinning project this past summer, which should enhance glade skiing. 

Great Divide offers the Half Price Passport for $59 and it’s transferable. The Passport, a 10-punch card, allows the holder to purchase a half-price lift ticket with each punch. There’s no daily use limit so 10 friends could get half-price lift tickets on the same day. Purchase as many Passports as you like. An adult lift ticket is $40 this season. Plans call for Great Divide to open for the season Nov. 24 or earlier if possible.
