Lift Rides Among Favorites For Utah Summer Visitors

There are plenty of new bells and whistles at Utah resorts this summer, but the old standby is still a ride up the lift.

Five resorts along the mountain front of the Salt Lake Basin have chosen to crank up their lifts this summer and keep the tradition alive. Here are the details for the Beehive State resorts that offer scenic lift rides in the summer.

The Sunrise chair at Solitude rises 1,000 vertical feet out of the Village. It runs Friday 1 to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. A single ride costs $7, a day pass goes for $16 and five-ride, all-season pass runs $29. Kids ride free. 

Topping out at 11,000 feet, the chairlift at Brian Head is open Friday through Sunday. Chairs spin from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mountain bikers and bikes pay $24 for all day, or $10 a ride. Sightseers pay $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children.

Up Little Cottonwood Canyon, the Snowbird aerial tram hits the 11,000-foot summit of Hidden Peak daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Peruvian high-speed quad takes riders to the Tunnel – and access to hiking in Mineral Basin – from noon to 6 p.m. daily. Costs are $16 a ride for an adult, $22 for all day; and, $14 and $18, respectively, for seniors and 7-13 year olds. Youngest ride free.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Snowbasin rolls up the Needles Gondola to rise more than 2,300 vertical feet out of the base area to the Needles Cirque. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays (until 9:30 p.m. for mountaintop diners), andltl9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Adults pay $14, seven to 17 year-olds cost $5. Youngest and oldest ride free.

The high-speed quad to Ray’s Summit at Sundance runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Sept. 3. One ride goes for $10 for adult, $9 for youngsters, and $8 for senior, with discounts for multiple trips up the lift. Moonlight rides on selected weekends go up 8:30 to 11 p.m.
