If you're looking for more than your average backyard barbecue, head to the mountains this Independence Day weekend to combine stunning vistas and summer activities with a celebration worthy of the nation's birthday.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado celebrates Independence Day in true western fashion, including the Cowboy’s Roundup Days, Strings Music Festival, and Pioneer Block Party. After the rodeo, keep your seat and watch the sky fill up with the beautiful colors of one of the biggest firework shows in Colorado.
Bretton Woods hosts its Salute to Freedom July 1-4. Guests of the Omni Mount Washington Resort have front-row viewing of the Saturday night fireworks from the Hotel’s 900-foot veranda, as well as musical performances, barbecues, beverage tastings, a pie eating contest and the annual Firecracker 5K Run. Celebrate summer in the heart of the White Mountains at Bretton Woods July 4. Spend the day at the Bretton Woods Adventure Center, then take in live music, family fun and fireworks.
July 4, Following the town parade on Main Street, Park City will have food, free music, and fireworks for guests to enjoy at the resort. The festivities begin in the Park City Base Area at 3:00 pm with a barbecue, family activities and DJ Velvet. Get warmed up for your July 4th celebrations Sunday July 3 at Stowe. Spruce Peak at Stowe is presenting an afternoon and evening festival in their new Village Center, hosted by local celebrity and entertainer Rusty Dewees, aka ‘The Logger.’ Rusty and friends will include a line up Vermont’s ‘Best-Of’ entertainers to create a vibe that’s colorful, conversational and homegrown. The day will also feature food, fun and fireworks appropriate for the entire family.
There’s a full weekend of Mountain Friends and Freedom planned in the Green Mountains at Stratton, with gondola rides, hay rides and live entertainment. Saturday’s hot dog eating contest is only open to the first 12 participants, so be sure to sign up.
