Labor Day Weekend Sales Mean Big Savings
Labor Day 2012 weekend (Sept. 1-3) means one very important thing to skiers and riders: sales.
There will be a wide number of mountain and cityside ski and sports shops hosting sales on equipment, clothing, and accessories. Here is but a sampling.
The 20th annual Labor Day Sale at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, Mass., is Aug. 31 from 3-8 p.m., and Sept. 1-3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Shop for skis, snowboards, package deals and more.
The Sports Center at Bolton Valley, Vt., is not only holding a weekend sale, but offering one hour on “snow” at the Labor of Love Rail Jam Aug. 31 at 6 p.m., for a $10 admission charge.
Bolton’s ski and snowboard sale will be held in the Sports Center from Thurs., Aug. 30-Mon., Sept. 3. Sale hours are Thurs., 4-8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Mon., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The sale includes more than $1 million in inventory with skis/snowboards starting at $99, kids’ snowboards starting at $59, plus lots more.
Southern Vermont’s Stratton Mountain sets up the big tent each Labor Day weekend in the main base area with deals on skis, snowboards, outerwear, goggles, helmets, and more from favorite brands like Burton, The North Face, Rossignol, Captia, GNU, Salomon, and others. Times are Fri., 12-6 p.m.; Sat., 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Mon., 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Maryland’s Wisp Resort holds its 42nd annual Rudy’s Labor Day Sale Fri., Aug. 31 through Mon., Sept. 3. There will be a selection of ski and snowboard equipment, apparel, and accessories at discount warehouse prices, as well as summer liquidation of swimwear, sportswear and Wisp Resort merchandise. The sale will be in the Main Lodge Fri. and Sat., 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Mon., 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Cross Country Ski Headquarters in Higgins Lake, Mich., sale runs Fri. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 (9 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sept. 2 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.). It’s a close out of all of last year’s discontinued equipment including skis, poles, boots, and clothing. Sample prices: 33-50 percent off on last year’s Fischer, Rossignol skis and boots; 50 percent off on Columbia adult and kids parkas. Discounts also on new 2012-13 inventory. A Nordic walking ski clinic led by Mr. Ski Walking USA, Pete Edwards, is set for Sun. afternoon from 2-5 p.m.
Christy Sports will be holding its annual Powder Daze Ski and Snowboard Sales Event beginning Fri., Aug. 24 through Mon., Sept. 3 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The event will be held at a new location, 9555 E. County Line Road in Englewood, Colo. All ski and snowboard gear and apparel will be up to 70 percent off. Resorts from Winter Park, Copper Mountain Loveland, and others will be hand to provide resort information, as well as reps from ski and snowboard manufacturers including K2, Salomon, and Rossignol.
Powder Daze is also set at Christy stores in Dillon, Aug. 24-Sept. 3, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Steamboat, Aug. 24 (7 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Aug. 25-Sept. 3 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Ski Rex Labor Day Sale with savings of 30-75 percent off last year’s retail prices will be held at four Front Range Colorado Ski & Golf Stores, Colorado Ski & Sports in Park Meadows, and Boulder Ski Deals. Some samples: Volkl Mantra and Rossignol S3 all-mountain skis for men with a savings of up to 40 percent; The K2 Lotta Luv ski for women also at a 40 percent discount; snowboarders can take advantage of snowboard decks, boot, and bindings from Burton and Ride with a discount of up to 75 percent.
The Aurora Colorado Ski & Golf sale will be held under a tent in the parking lot from Sat., Sept. 1- Mon., Sept. 3. Sales hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 1; 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 2; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sale prices will continue until Sept. 16.
There is also a Junior Trade-In Program for kids 4-18, ski and snowboard recycling that is donated to charitable domestic programs.
Sports Authority stores continue the “SNIAGRAB” tradition (bargains spelled backwards) started by Denver’s Gart Brothers (now part of Sports Authority) at select locations in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Utah (Sportscastle in Warren, Sept. 1-16), and Washington. Merchandise will be up to 80 percent off on name brands like Columbia, Salomon, and others.
Wyoming’s Jackson Hole Resort hosts its 16th annual sale in Teton Village Aug. 31-Sept. 3 from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Check out the deals – some up to 70 percent off – at several Village stores like Pepi Stieglers, Wildernest Sports, Jackson Treehouse, JH Sports, and Teton Village Sports. Equipment, clothing, and accessories will be on sale.
Cole Sport in Park City, Utah continues its summer sale during the Labor Day weekend in its Park Avenue location. Most of their inventory is half price on summer merchandise, as well as last year’s ski/snowboard equipment, clothing, and accessories. Sale is 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
California’s Dodge Ridge Labor Day Weekend Festivities run Sat., Sept. 1-Mon., Sept. 3. The Sport Shop is offering 2013 gear at 20 percent off, and up to 75 percent off prior season gear. In addition to the discounts, there will be entertainment and a BBQ Sat.
Squaw Valley, Calif.,'s weekend sale is Fri., Aug. 31-Mon., Sept. 3. Save up to 80 percent. Gear includes Volkl, Marker, Burton, K2 and more at First Street in the Village.
It’s the 26th annual Labor Day Tent Sale at Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Sept. 1 (9 a.m.-6 p.m.), Sept. 2 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Sept. 3 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). Deals on anything ski or snowboard are offered (some up to 70 percent), including apparel, packs, bots, skis, boards, bindings, accessories, and kids’ equipment and gear. Ski/board manufacturer reps will be on hand to answer technical questions.
Ski Bonkers' sale at Westfield Southcenter Mall in Seattle is Fri. Aug. 31 from 1-10 p.m.; Sat. from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sun. and Mon. from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. There is no admission charge.
