Labor Day In The Mountains Goes To Higher Level

The end of the summer is unofficially marked by the Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2-5), and then the long, long wait for ski and snowboard season to begin.
So before the waiting begins, get a whiff of the high-mountain air and winds in the pines by checking out the holiday festivities at resorts all around the country.

Timberline. Labor Day Mountain Music Festival is free at Oregon resort’s amphitheatre, headlined by Marley’s Ghost. Famed Timberline Lodge awaits for night’s stay, including breakfast.
Smuggler’s Notch. Holiday weekend package in Vermont covers three nights at condo near village, pool and waterslide, comp’d breakfast and dinner. Family of four that stays three nights gets best deal.

Steamboat. Weekend feature Wild West Air Fest with vintage aircraft, classic case and aerobatic show. Two-night stay gets tickets to air show, and two-for-one gondola ticket. Bonus is professional bull riding on Sunday eve in Colorado town.
Sun Valley. Wagon Days overlaps Labor Day weekend with non-motorized parade, pancake breakfast and music in Ketchum – and Idaho endurance athlete Rebecca Rusch hosts bike races. Lodging packages in town and on mountain.
