As the long-dubbed “Snow Making Capital of the World,” Hunter Mountain opened earlier than usual thanks to even more snowmaking upgrades. Hunter debuts a partnership with 686 Technical Apparel to host a rail jam series and improvements to the children’s programs to make learning to slide on snow all the more fun.
Thanks to a partnership with 686 Technical Apparel, Hunter Mountain’s terrain park will host three 686-sponsored Rail Jam events starting in December Each event will debut a newly constructed 686 rail for participants to show off their park skills in front of judges.
Rail Jam victors will be outfitted with the newest 686 gear, worth $1,000 per event. The Jams are open to anyone over 18, with registration on the day of the event.
“The 686 Rail Jams are designed to be accessible to different levels, so even beginners can try their hand at competition,” Hunter’s Kat Lacey told SnoCountry.com.
Hunter continues to build upon its already excellent learning experience. Improvements have taken place inside and out.
Outside in the Terrain Garden, two new SunKid carpet lifts are for the sole use of Children’s Programs. The carpets take less than a minute to transport children from the bottom of the carpet to the top, making the wait-line shorter to nonexistent.
“The carpet lifts not only give kids more time on snow, but in using them exclusively for the kids’ programs, we hope to create an environment where they are happier, surrounded by peers rather than interspersed with adults. It also makes it easier for staff to keep kids together,” Lacey told us.
Terrain around the lifts has been regraded, creating more suitable, gentle slopes for beginners. The width of the sliding area has been expanded by roughly 80 feet.
Inside, a new area is dedicated to Mountaineers (ages 7- 12) for their lunch during the season. This adds to the dedicated rental area for Mountaineers, which mirrors the set-up for the Explorers Program (ages 4-6). There's a dedicated rental area, lunch room, and break room for children. The exclusivity streamlines the process.
