Keystone Mountain Experience Means Discounts, Free Clinics For Newbies; First Is Dec. 13-14
Colorado’s population keeps growing, so newcomers to the Colorado mountains can get a two-weekend primer in what skiing and snowboarding in the Rockies is all about from Keystone Resort.
In an effort to bring more newbies onto the slopes, the Keystone Mountain Experience kicks off Dec. 13-14 and re-appears Jan. 31-Feb. 1. For both sessions, adult participants get a discounted $59 lift ticket (regular price $85) and 30 percent off equipment rentals for adults. Reduced lodging rates at selected Keystone properties also are available. Kids 12 and under are free if family is staying in a Keystone lodging property.
“Skiing and snowboarding are more than sports, they can represent a lifestyle.” Keystone’s Russell Carlton told SnoCountry.com. “Those who participate, particularly Colorado residents, may feel everyone in our state is either a skier or snowboarder. But for the many folks who either have never tried the sport or perhaps haven’t been on the slopes in years, this series provides the opportunity to be introduced, or reacquainted, with skiing and snowboarding.”
The first weekend focuses on both introducing children and adults to skiing and riding, reinvigorating those who haven’t been on the slopes in awhile and giving both groups a look at what the Summit County resort has to offer.
Free one-hour clinics begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. participants must be at least 11 years old). For those youngsters more interested in playing in the snow rather than on it, Keystone has timed the opening of its new Snow Fort to coincide with the first weekend of the series.
The series links up with snowboard-maker Burton, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, with free snowboarding clinics – anyone 3 years old or more is welcome – at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days at the top of Dercum Mountain. Athletes from Burton will put on demonstrations, and there will be women-only clinics, too.
