Keep The High-Speed Thrills Going With Summer Alpine Coasters

Since the mid-1990s, summertime alpine coasters have sprung at winter resorts all over the country. The wind-in-your-face speeds, high-speed turns and mountain vistas mimic the sights and sounds what skiers and snowboarders feel during the snowy times. 

Here’s a SnoCountry list of some of the alpine coasters around the nation:


Cranmore mountain coaster
Cranmore. Part of the Mountain Adventure Park, the 3,000-foot ride begins next to the South Quad chair and reaches 25 mph as it winds through the New Hampshire forest. Begins at $24.

Berkshire East mountain coaster
Berkshire East. Grab some G-forces on the 3,870-foot long Thunderbolt Mountain Coaster course at the base of the western Massachusetts resort. Single ride runs $15 for driver, $10 for rider on two-seater.

Greek Peak mountain coaster
Greek Peak. Ride on Nor’easter Mountain Coaster begins on first floor of base lodge of New York resort. Some 4,300 feet later, it ends on second floor – with up to 28 mph thrills along the way. Single ride $10, all-day $49.

Snow King Mountain coaster
Snow King Mountain. True to its heritage, the Summer Cowboy Coaster has nearly a mile of summer schusses awaits on the Wyoming town hill in Jackson. Driver pays $20, rider $10 with five-ride pack available too.

Breckenridge mountain coaster
Breckenridge. Gold Runner Alpine Coaster sits by Rip’s Ride chair and other Fun Park activities at base of Peak 8. Totals 2,500 feet long. Ticket is part of Fun Park or Adventure Park pass.

Snowbird. Riders board at base of Peruvian Chair (behind The Cliff Lodge) for 3,120 feet and two minutes of twists and turns. One ride for $18, kids go all-day for $36 at Utah resort.

Glenwood Springs mountain coaster

Glenwood Springs. Running 3,400 feet, the Cliffhanger Coaster runs above Glenwood Springs. As part of the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, kids pay $6 per ride.
