Michigan's Ski Brule, a longtime Midwest family favorite, offers a variety of terrain – slopes, terrain parks, terrain trails and half pipes – that flow off a 500-foot ridge. As Heartland skiers and riders have learned in past years, a Brule season pass can be a wise investment. You can count on plenty of time to use it. They hold the record for the longest Midwest season staying open 182 days during the 2005-06 season.  The area normally opens in early November and stays open well into April.

Trails: Brule has 17 trails, two terrain trails, three terrain parks and 11 lifts. The longest runs are up to a mile. Advanced slopes Whitewater and Big Bear offer sustained steep top to bottom and are in full view of the Brule Lodge and Saloon. Two long novice trails, Maple Syrup and Homestead, windl from the top to the main lodge in front and the Homestead Lodge on the backside offering full access to all areas. The two terrain trails, both rated advanced, snake down the front and back side offering lots of twists and quick turns.   

The Homestead Lodge, an 1880 homestead cabin, makes a great lunch spot.Eat. For breakfast visit the Brule Café, large made-to-order breakfasts. For lunch visit the 1880’s Homestead Lodge located partway down the Homestead Trail accessible by downhill skis, snowboards and cross-country skis.  l. The Hillside Dining Room in the Brule Saloon is a great spot for dinner as you watch the sun set over the ski hill.  A visit to Alice’s Restaurant in nearby Iron River for homemade Italian food is always a good choice one night.

Stay. Brule Village is full of self-contained options, from studios to entire log cabins, all close to the slopes.  

 Ski Brule is popular with Midwest families.

Play. The resort offers 30K of cross country trails, some along the scenic Brule River, and fat tire biking rentals and trails as well. Snowmobiling with lots of trail choices is another option.

Insider's Tip: You can't leave Brule without experiencing a night of BBQ and live music at the mid-mountain Homestead Lodge, accessed by sleigh ride on Thursday and Sunday nights.
