Idaho Resorts Heat Up For Summer

Brundage SummitIt’s in the 90s in Boise, Idaho Falls and Spokane, so the way to cool off for many interior Northwest folks is to head to the Idaho mountains.

Summer activities are in full swing at a dozen Idaho mountain resorts. Most popular are riding a ski lift and catching a major view at the top, or then riding the trails on a mountain bike.

Most resorts run summer lift rides through Labor Day, with discounts for kids, seniors and families.

Here’s a sampling of where to enjoy these summer activities in the mountains of the Gem State:

Brundage. Grab some shots of the Payette Lakes, Long Valley, Meadows Valley and the Seven Devils by taking the chairlift for an adult fare of $12. Mountain bikers can get a lift up the hill all season for $99, or $32 a day for adults. The resort also links a 2013-2014 season ski pass with a discounted bike summer pass.

Pomerelle. Hook a mountain bike to the chair and enjoy a full day of riding for $20 until Labor Day. Or, simply ride to the top, hike around and stop to soak in the panorama of the Magic Valley. Multi-ride cards available.

Schweitzer Mountain

Schweitzer. It’s a $12 for a single adult ride to the top of the Great Escape quad. Mountain bikers might want to invest in the $20 all-day ticket. Either way, the view of the Lake Pend Oreille valley should be worth it.

Silver Mountain. Operating Fridays through Sundays, the longest gondola in North America (3.1 miles) delivers adult visitors to the Mountain House at the summit for $17. For $29.95, mountain bikers get their bikes to the summit. The resort also offers a mountaintop barbeque option.

Sun Valley. Bald Mountain (9,150 feet elevation) is the hub of activity here. A single adult ride to the summit costs $15, or all day for $25. Adult mountain bikers can put up $25 for as many runs as they can make.
