Homestead, Crystal Mountain Gateways To Top Ranked Sleeping Bear Dunes
What’s the “Most Beautiful Place In America?” More than 100,000 viewers of ABC’s Good Morning America voted for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Some of the tallest perched dunes in the world rising nearly 500 feet above the lake offer magnificent sweeping vistas of Lake Michigan, miles of white sand beaches, and forested wilderness islands.
Plenty of hiking trails lead you to stunning overlooks and preserved historic farmsteads. Sleeping Bear Dunes edged out such better-known spots as the Grand Tetons, Sedona, Newport, Cape Cod, Aspen, and Hawaii. It was the only Heartland nomination.
Accolades continue to grow for Sleeping Bear Dunes. American Profile magazine just named the National Lakeshore "The Best Inland Beach" in the country as part of its "America's Best Beaches" issue.
The Homestead, often called “America’s Freshwater Resort,” is perched amidst massive dunes along the Lake Michigan shoreline, surrounded by Sleeping Bear Dunes.
The resort offers an array of luxurious accommodations, gourmet dining, superb recreational opportunities, and, of course, great overlooks of the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline.
This is dunes country, and trails lead right off property into the National Lakeshore. A pass, which you can acquire at the Homestead, is required to enter the national park.
A variety of lodging packages, starting from $60 per person, per night, based on double occupancy for the B&B package, are available all summer long. They offer romantic themes, a bed and breakfast, spa treatments and golf at Arnold Palmer's Manitou Passage Golf Club.
The course, which measures near 6,750 yards from the tips, is just a few minutes down the road from the resort and offers a challenging 18-hole layout with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Golf Getaway packages start from $96 per person. Follow the link above for all offers and complete details. The resort offers live music concerts throughout the summer.
Crystal Mountain is located just a few miles from the southern end of Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Family Circle recently listed it as one of the six "Best Ski Resort Towns for a Summer Vacation" in America. Also mentioned in the article were Vail, Colorado, Big Sky, Montana, and Lake Tahoe, California. That's some pretty heady company.
The article praised the Crystal Coaster Alpine Slide that slithers down the ski hill, paintball games, outdoor concerts in the Michigan Legacy Art Park, and floating lily pads in the water park. In addition are two championship 18-hole golf courses, lift-served mountain biking with new trails and new mountain bike camps, fly fishing instruction and guided trips, kayaking and canoeing, and, of course, miles of trails to explore in the nearby National Lakeshore.
Save up to 25-percent on lodging when you book a seven night vacation, and stay free on selected dates throughout the summer when you book lodging only or an Unlimited Golf Package.
