It may be a slow start to the Midwest ski season, but things are supposed to improve by the holidays and several Heartland resorts have plans to celebrate the season. Let’s all ask Santa to bring the snow.
Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands will offer up the sights and sounds of the holidays Dec. 18-Jan. 3 with lots of planned activities, dinners, holiday rail jams, New Year’s Eve events, live bands and fireworks over the ski slopes. Boyne’s 6-for-1 day has been moved to Dec. 23 when six people can ski at either resort for the price of one, which celebrates North America’s first six-seat, high speed lift installed at Boyne Mountain in 1991.
Crystal Mountain will be enjoying the holidays Dec. 19-31.It’s 5-for $50 Friday Dec. 18 when five people can ski or ride for $50. Planned activities will be taking place every day—fat bike tours, snowshoe tours, horse drawn surrey rides—with dinners, live entertainment and New Year’s Eve parties.
Shanty Creek’s holiday events include the Sardine Special Friday, Dec. 18, when you pack the car with as many people as possible and you all ski for the price of one, and breakfast and storytime with Santa is Saturday, Dec. 19. Ski and ride free with Santa on the Schuss Mountain slopes Christmas Day. Bring a non-perishable food item or clothing to donate. Cedar River Village Holiday Ski Packages start from $226 per person, per night and includes lodging, lift ticket, breakfast and a group ski lesson.
Indianhead Mountain Resort, Michigan’s UP, has New Year’s Eve parties set and fireworks over Blackjack’s slopes, which can be seen from both resorts. Special events include skiing with Santa Saturday, Dec. 19. there’s a family lift ticket for $50 or individual tickets for $25. Christmas Day. Indianhead Mountaintop hotel rooms start at $92 per night between Dec. 26-Jan. 2.
Wisconsin’s Devil’s Head Resort New Year’s bash package, which includes three night’s lodging, three dinners, three breakfast or lunches, four day lift tickets, festivities and a free bottle of champagne, starts at $506 per person. Kids can be added for $49 per night.
