Get Social On The Mountain! SnoCountry's Best Bets For Social Media And Tracking Apps
Share your photos for free with the EpicMix iPhone or Android app. (Vail Resorts)
In the age of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, it’s a given for many that sharing your day with others means checking in on your phone. With these apps, capture your experience and connect with friends and family while you are on the mountain, and relive the story of your day and your season back at home.
Vail Resorts’s EpicMix (free) uses the RFID chip in season passes and day tickets to track vertical feet, number of lift rides and other data. EpicMix Photo delivers free digital photos through ski pass information; EpicMix Racing records digitized amateur racing statistics; EpicMix Academy provides information and goals for guests enrolled in ski school; and EpicMix Challenges allows guests to compete against friends and family on the mountain. EpicMix Time gets you real-time lift line wait times in Colorado.
In addition to its tracking app, Trace (free) now offers an action sports tracker ($199) with a small device that attaches to your board and tells you speed, air time, height of jumps, which lifts you were on, so you can track your progression over time. Trace will also auto-edit video footage for you as well as overlay your stats automatically.
Not only can you track your vert and days on snow with SkiLynx ($2.99), but you can also keep track of where your buddies are on the mountain too, and can set up a quick text to keep in touch and decide where and when to meet. For anyone else in your group who has the app, you can see in real time what run or lift each person is riding. One drawback: only covers about 28 resorts, none in the East.
Users can access SNOCRU's (free with in-app purchases) tracking technology with or without an internet connection, allowing for a day of skiing or snowboarding tracking without interruption. Skiers and snowboarders can connect with each other in real time through the Near Me functionality, as well as challenge fellow CRU members to compete on the slopes by setting up a DAYCRU. Check conditions, measure speed, altitude and distance, and find the best apres party scene, restaurants, or local shop.
