A fire broke out in Wild Mountain's maintenance barn on March 30 destroying the structure, according to the Minnesota ski area in a Facebook post.
The Chisago County Sheriff's Office confirmed that multiple crews were called out to successfully contain the fire, which remains under investigation as to its origin.
Wild Mountain said in their Facebook post that they had lost many of the tools and machinery inside the building, but we're happy to report that no one was injured by the fire. It was contained to just the maintenance building and did not affect the base lodge or other structures related to the ski area. They didn't expect the fire to be a problem to their winter operations but were not sure yet if, or how, it might affect their summer operation.
The ski area had just closed for the season last weekend.
They thanked all of the neighboring fire and police units that were at the scene. They said without the outcome may have been far worse, and that future updates would be posted on their Facebook page.
When fully open Wild offers 26 trails, including the double-black Wall and an easy trail from the top of the Mountain, four terrain parks, and eight lifts including four quads. Season passes are currently on sale through April 6 with a guarantee of offering pass holders at least 100 days of skiing and riding during the 2021/2022 season. They will go up $100 the next day.
