Fall Ski Shows Juice Up New Season Excitement; Here Are The Dates, Info

Burton Riglet Snowboard Park (Colorado Ski & Snowboard Expo/Joan Christensen)Skiers and riders look to the fall ski shows to discover improvements ski areas have made during the off-season, talk with equipment manufacturers’ reps, decide on their ski vacation and getaway plans, get deals on swapped or new equipment, and enjoy live entertainment.

Oct. 15-18: Toronto Snow Show, International Centre, Hall 5, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON, Hours: Thurs., 3-10 p.m., Fri., Noon-10 p.m., Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: Adults $18; Juniors (11-17) and Seniors (65 plus) $10; children (10 and under) free with an adult; Family Pass (2 adults + 2 children) $45.

Highlights: Buy one, get one free lift ticket with admission; Pro-AM Rail Jam; Burton Riglet Park, snowboard park; the Canadian Ski Patrol System’s biggest ski and snowboard swap (according to the organization) that helps support Patrol training programs and volunteer first aid services. Exhibitors will have the latest equipment, deals from resorts across North America.

Oct. 16-17: Minnesota Ski & Snowboard Expo. Mall of America, 60 E. Broadway, Bloomington, Minn. No admission or parking fees. Exhibitors include ski and snowboard manufacturers, ski resorts, travel companies, and health and fitness experts.

Oct. 23-25: Windy City Ski and Snowboard Show, Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center, 1551 N. Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg, Ill. Hours: Fri., 3-10 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Adult admission $12; kids under 12 are free. Free parking.

Highlights: Manufacturer reps from top ski and snowboard companies; local, destination resorts; purchase new gear; meet pro skier and snowboarders; Southern Region Ski Patrol’s Super Sale featuring over $2 million in merchandise with discounts of up to 70 percent. Prizes, lift ticket giveaways; free Schaumburg Woodfield Trolley service.

Oct. 24-25: Ottawa Ski, Snowboard And Travel Show, Ernst & Young Centre), Hall 3, 4899 Uplands Drive at Airport Parkway, Ottawa, ON.  Hours: Sat., and Sun.,10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free admission; $8 on site parking. 

Highlights: Over 100 U.S. and Canadian ski and snowboard-related travel destinations, equipment and clothing (discounts from 50-70 percent), lifestyle information and related products and services, at-show-only special offers, plus ski/snowboard swap and sale. Onsite Dodgeball tournament, photo booth, and trampoline demonstrations by Calabogie and Camp Fortune Freestyle Teams.

Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Calgary Snow Show, Equi-Plex, Spruce Meadows, 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW, Calgary, AB. Hours: Sat., 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission: Adults $10; order online and save $3; kids 12 and under free when accompanied by paid adult. Save when you share on Facebook.

Highlights: Calgary Snowmobile Swap & Show in conjunction with Snow Show, Burton Kids’ Zone.

Oct. 31-Nov. 1: Snowbomb Ski & Board Festival-San Francisco, Fort Mason Center, 2 Marina Blvd., San Francisco, Calif. Hours: Sat. and Sun.,10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: General entry free. Powder Pass $25 (admission, one free lift ticket to Badger Pass, Bear Valley, China Peak, Sierra-at-Tahoe). VIP Pass $50 (admission, free lift ticket to Powder Pass areas, unlimited Sat. wine or Sun. beer tasting, buy one-get one free Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows). Platinum Pass also available for $200.
