Eastern Resorts Ready To Welcome New Skiers And Riders In January; Plenty Of Deals

Mountain Creek

January is the time for Eastern resorts to join the national push to “grow the games.” In this case, the games are skiing and snowboarding, with the goal of bringing new audiences to the hill. You, your friends and families are the beneficiaries.

Bolton Valley, near Burlington, Vt., has a limited number of $29 learn to ski and ride lessons for January. Interested “newbies” can register online. “We also have our Learn to Love It program which gives the first timer 50 percent off lift tickets, group lessons and rentals, after their third learn to ski or ride lesson,” Josh Arneson, Bolton’s Director of Sales and Marketing, told SnoCountry.com.

The accompanying lift ticket restricts the user to the Snowflake and Mighty Mite lifts – plenty good enough for the inexperienced - but includes equipment. The three-day offer incorporates the resort’s Burton LTR (Learn to Ride) program which started in 2006 and features a total new school approach to boarding.

At Mountain Creek, January brings BOGO month: Monday to Friday throughout the month, anyone who buys a learn to ski or ride package will get another free of charge. The Vernon, N.J. resort will go several steps further by offering walk-ups a coupon good for a 50 percent reduction on their next visit if they bring a friend who purchases a learn-to package.

This offer begins in January and will remain in place until the end of the season. “As the closest ski area to New York City, and one of the largest populations in the country, we feel uniquely positioned to be the gateway to the winter sports lifestyle for hundreds of thousands N.Y. and N.J. residents,” remarked Mountain Creek's Hugh Reynolds to SnoCountry.com. “As such, growing and ‘infecting’ new skiers and snowboarders with the love of the sports is always a key priority in our planning.” Arguably the most comfortable way to get involved in these first-time sports would be with similar newcomers. It’s amazing to see people in this environment encouraging each other to “get it."

Loon Mountain in N.H. has a lift-group lesson-equipment package for $149 for the full day. Loon’s half-day offer for the same is only $99. But if you decide you want more after lunch, add the remainder of the afternoon for just $20.January is the time to make the commitment. The holiday crowds have gone back to the office and the slopes are quieter, especially mid-week. The on-hill crews have built up the snow base and trail count, and as you catch on to these sports, more of the mountain is within your reach. The best part of all is that you’ve conquered a new activity; there are still three months left to the season to continue improving; and as Mountain Creek’s Reynolds pointed out, you are now part of our great winter lifestyle.
