While we eagerly anticipate the coming season, movie premiers across the country make a party out of waiting for the snow to fly. Sure, you can download these movies onto your device and watch by yourself, but the excitement of packing in to a theater or lodge with a bunch of other fanatics brings a palpable energy to the potential the months ahead offer.
In Red Bull Media House’s “The Fourth Phase,” iconic snowboarder Travis Rice embarks on a journey around the North Pacific, immersing himself in the hydrological cycle. With a crew of snowboarding’s most innovative riders, he travels from his home base in Wyoming, across the Pacific to Japan, north to Russia, and over to Alaska, discovering more than new terrain.
“Ruin and Rose” takes its audience to “a world without water, consumed by sand,” as described by writer/director Ben Sturgulewski. The film’s storyline follows a young boy on his journey to discover the lost wonders of winter in a time when endless dunes dominate the landscape. His quest is juxtaposed against images of winter in the here and now, creating a balance between spectacular skiing and a journey into forgotten lands of myth and magic.
Teton Gravity Research celebrates its birthday this year with “Tight Loose.” If you’ve been a TGR fan for any or all of its 21 years, you have seen the constant evolution of refining a lifestyle – “keeping things as buttoned-up on the front end in order to seize the moment when things reach the edge of control.” From India to Alaska, discover unridden spine walls, massive airs, and full throttle riding in some of the wildest and most spectacular places on earth. The 21-year athlete roster comes together for a reunion-style massive group shred of the Palisades at Squaw Valley.
"The Warren Miller Movie" returns for season 67 with “Here, There & Everywhere.” Warren Miller Entertainment's annual ski movies have been the unofficial kickoff to winter for generations of skiers and riders, getting the ski scene stoked for the season since 1950. World-class skiing at epic destinations and a healthy dose of swag are a given. Narration by Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley and on-screen interviews with the legendary Warren Miller deliver the nostalgia of skiing’s roots and a zeal for discovering new terrain.
