For a Midwest resort that has been named one of the 50 Best Places to Ski & Stay in North America by Condé Nast Traveler, Michigan’s Crystal Mountain Resort just continues to improve.
It’s part of an $11 million expansion the resort first announced last spring. Construction will soon be complete on a new ski area addition with eight new runs and a triple chairlift, and they have broken ground on what they are calling, “a transformative expansion of the Inn at the Mountain.”
With what I already consider one of the best resort villages in the Heartland, the ground breaking construction will transform the village center with a 31,200 square-foot expansion and surrounding plaza to the Inn at the Mountain.
“This is part of a bigger story, a master plan we’ve been putting in place over the last 25 years … to create a beautiful, vibrant but also quaint and charming village,” said Chris MacInnes, chief operating officer.
This new expansion, the single largest investment in Crystal’s history, is the latest segment in what totals nearly $100 million in development over the last 25 years. This new expansion will add 25 hotel rooms, bringing total Inn rooms to 54. A new rooftop terrace will serve as an open-air, landscaped outdoor patio and event venue offering stunning views of the slopes and village. The main level will add a coffee bar, a specialty market, and the new landscaped Village Plaza surrounding the Inn will be the heart of the village tying it all together.
“Over the last three decades we’ve designed the elements of the village core with a thoughtful, disciplined approach,” added Jim MacInnes, chief executive officer for Crystal Mountain. “This project is the hub that connects the spokes.”
The new slope development, which will be ready for the coming season, brings the resort’s total number of trails to 58. The west facing slopes, beginner and intermediate, will flow in between the North Face and Ridge slopes with a couple of outer runs joining those slope complexes.
