The next Olympic Winter Games are a year and a half away, but you might get a glimpse of the next ice skating world champion at Sun Valley this summer.
Idaho’s most famous winter resort will keep the ice frozen through Sept. 1 this year to host a weekly figure skating show. Once and future stars will put on the blades to show off their latest routines every Saturday evening at dusk on the outdoor ice rink at the base of Sun Valley Resort.
Dubbed “Sun Valley On Ice,” the show will feature American stars from the Olympic past, as well as recent U.S. champions honing their skills in anticipation of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Among the performers this summer will be Brian Botano, two-time world champion and Olympic champion; Evan Lysacek, 2010 Olympic champion; pairs skaters Kyoto Ina and John Zimmerman, who have won three U.S. championships; Ashley Wagner and Alissa Czisny, who finished first and second respectively in the 2012 U.S. Nationals; and, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, 2011 ice dancing world champions.
Six of the shows include a hotel package and prime viewing from the Lodge Terrace Buffet. A ticket to watch the show from the terrace, one night’s lodging and a buffet during the show costs $182.40 per person double occupancy. Bleacher seats and one night’s lodging costs $117. For the hotel-show package, you must call (800) 786-8259.
Ice shows are only part of the entertainment at Sun Valley this summer. The Ketchum, Idaho, resort offers hiking, mountain biking, tennis, skeet shooting, and summer camps for kids.
