Big White, Sun Peaks Welcome Spring With Events, Deals

Big White Ski Resort 2013 (bigwhite.com)

March ushers in a multitude of events at BC’s Big White Ski Resort and Sun Peaks Resort.

Big White kicks it off March 15 with the final installment of the TELUS Park Rail Jam, fun for riders and spectators alike. If you’re an intermediate skier/rider, join in the Cruz the Blues March 15 and 16 by riding all the blue runs and collecting stamps in a passport. Hand in your passport at the end of the weekend and get a t-shirt and a chance at winning the grand prize.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day March 17 by skiing with leprechauns for a few turns on the slopes. There also will be offerings of Irish food including the full-Irish fry-up (breakfast of bacon, fried eggs, beans, and Irish pancakes) and libation featuring well-known Irish beers, like Guinness, Harp, and Kilkenny. Younger children can take part in the “Pot of Gold Treasure Hunt” in the lobby and Blarney Stone restaurant.

March 22 is the Big White Spring Wine Gala featuring the best white wines produced in the Okanagan Valley. Sample the variety of wines and try some of the locally inspired appetizers prepared by mountain chefs. Later that evening, there will be a live auction, dance, and dessert bar supporting the Big White Racers Ski Club. Tickets are $75 per person in the Village Centre Mall.

The area also is extending two of their package deals. Book five nights of accommodation and five days of skiing and get an additional two days and two nights free with the “Buy 5, Get 7” deal. Use code KO/1314 when booking. Or, book three nights and three days of skiing with Big White’s Central Reservations and receive the fourth night and day of skiing free. Be sure to use the code HA/1314 when booking the “Buy 3, Get 4” package. Both deals are valid until the end of the season.

Sun Peaks celebrates the month with live music on an outdoor stage every Saturday evening at the base of the Sundance chairlift. Other performances take place on various days.

“We started March Music Madness to showcase local and regional musicians to our guests from around the world,” says Sun Peaks Janice Nankivell. “We have everything from DJ’s, to solo guitarists, to jazz, to reggae bands.”

The Canadian rock band, The Sheepdogs, will perform March 29 as part of the Dew Tour Am Series Ski and Snowboard Slopestyle event. Click http://sunpeaksresort.com/mmm here for the complete music schedule.
