Big Snow = Early Openings in California For Mammoth, Palisades Tahoe
Thanks to more than three feet of snow, California's Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe will open for the season on Friday, Oct. 29.
"The season kicks off tomorrow with one of our earliest opening dates ever!" Palisade Tahoe posted on their Facebook page. "This is only the third time we’ve been able to open in October in our 72 years of operation. We’ll be spinning the Funitel, Gold Coast, Shirley Lake, Big Blue, Aerial Tram, Mountain Meadow and Bailey’s Beach 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday-Sunday. The Belmont park will open on Saturday with 9 features."
Both resorts are reporting more than three feet of snow on their upper mountains. Palisades Tahoe plans to be open on weekends only as conditions allow until full-time operations begin on Nov. 24. Mammoth Mountain will be open daily.
Mammoth will offer top-to-bottom terrain with the Panorama Gondola will be spinning to the summit and access to Cornice Bowl and Road Runner.
Mammoth moved up its opening by two weeks to Oct. 29 even before the storm, fed by a powerful atmospheric river, that arrived last weekend.
