The West Yellowstone, Gallatin National Forest area of southern Montana, which includes Big Sky Resort, offers plenty of winter adventures to choose from. Big Sky, located in the West Yellowstone Gallatin National Forest, is just 45 minutes from the western entrance to Yellowstone National Park where snowcoach tours will take you to Old Faithful, bison viewing and more. It makes a great combination for a winter getaway. It’s also a good time to visit West Yellowstone, which is often packed with bumper to bumper traffic in the warmer months. You will also see more animal activity in the winter, because they come down to the lower elevations.
Big Sky is one of the largest ski resorts in the USA with sprawling terrain that will accommodate all skiing and riding levels. There are 5,850 skiable acres and 4,350 feet of vertical drop. At 11,166 feet it's easy to see Lone Peak's appeal to every age and level of skier and boarder. There are runs up to six miles long with wide, rolling groomed runs, gnarly chutes and couloirs for experts, inviting bowls and extensive glades that are normally covered in 400+ inches of annual snowfall.
