Australia’s Perisher Ready For Season; To Debut New $4 Million Quad Chair

Perisher opens for the 2014 Down Under ski season June 7. Guests will be greeted by the new $4 million quad chairlift in Guthega named the Freedom Chairlift.

The new chair will increase lift capacity by 46 percent, carrying over 2,400 skiers and riders per hour. It goes from the bottom of the Cow Pastures J-Bar to the top of the Blue Cow T-Bar in Guthega. The Cow Pastures J-Bar will be removed which opens up skiing on Hanky Panky.

Along with the start of season, opening weekend features the family-friendly Perisher Peak Music Festival, http://www.peakfestival.com.au event, June 6-9. There will be live music representing a number of genres, including folk, acoustic, traditional music and celtic. There also will be dance, poetry and story-telling and workshops. It takes place across 8 indoor venues. 

A number of hotels and lodges throughout Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes and Guthega Alpine Village offer pre-booked packages that include 3-nights’ lodging, breakfasts, and a Festival pass starting at $305 AUD (approximately US $283) per person.

Attention early birds: Ski and board specials include a 5-day lift and lift and lesson packages from $78 AUD (US $72) per adult, per day and $42 AUD (US $38) for children  at Perisher, Blue Cow Smiggin Holes and Guthega. Available July 14-25 and Sept. 1-19; offer ends May 31.
