Arapahoe Basin Is Not Giving Up On Reopening

Gov. Jared Polis offered some hope to skiers with Monday’s announcement that camping can resume in the state, saying he would have a decision regarding skiing on May 25.

That is Memorial Day, which was to have been closing day at Breckenridge if not for the coronavirus pandemic, but Arapahoe Basin frequently stays open through June.

“We are still committed to reopening,” said Arapahoe Basin spokeswoman Katherine Fuller.

With its high elevation, Arapahoe Basin would seem to be well-situated to offer good spring skiing if Polis were to allow it. Pictures taken this month and posted on the area’s website show lots of snowcover. A-Basin offers lift-served skiing to 12,500 feet.
