Vermont Governor Phill Scott Proclaims #ridewithjake Weekend
Vermont Governor Philip Scott proclaims that March 13-15 is #ridewithjake weekend at Stratton Mountain, the first major resort to welcome snowboarding.
Stratton is one of 13 mountains around the globe to honor Jake Burton Carpenter, founder of Burton Snowboards, with “A Day for Jake” on Friday, March 13. The entire snowboard community will ride together at no cost in celebration of Jake, who passed away this past November. Several events are planned throughout the day, with snowboarders gathering at Stratton’s Mid- Mountain Lodge at 12:45 to ride their favorite trail in honor of Jake.
On Saturday, March 14, at 4 pm, after a full day of competition in the 8th annual Vermont Open snowboarding event, the community will gather as Stratton President Bill Nupp reads the governor’s proclamation and unveils the historic marker at the top of Suntanner, the trail on which Burton tested his early boards under the cloak of darkness. Olympic medalist Ross Powers, representatives from Burton and members of the Carpenter family are expected to join hundreds of riders at Stratton for the tribute.
