The 12th annual Pats Peak Mountain Bike Festival weekend in Henniker, N.H., is June 8-9. Choose from 24-, 12- or 6-hour, X-Country Challenge and Downhill Thrill races.

 

The 24-, 12- or 6-hour competitors can ride solo or in 2-, 4- or 5-person teams. It begins at 12 noon Sat., June 8. This is an endurance competition held on a circuit course of wooded trails, unpaved roads, along with a variety of obstacles that tests strength and technical ability. You can pre-ride the course for free when it opens on a soon-to-be-announced date.

Slop into the challenge of the second annual Mountain Mucker 5K Obstacle Race at New Hampshire’s Mount Sunapee Saturday, June 1.

 

Competitors will negotiate 14 obstacles along the course that winds up and down the mountain slopes. 83 teams have already registered.

Canterbury’s Mt Hutt ski area in New Zealand’s South Island recently received its second major snowfall in two weeks. Opening day is set for June 15. 

 

The latest storm dropped 20cm (just under 8 inches) over the entire mountain.

Former National Team Coach Eric Harlow has been tapped to direct the Eastern Alpine Regional Program for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

 

Harlow has extensive coaching experience, having served as FIS head coach at Burke Mountain Academy, women’s head coach at both Stratton Mountain School, both in Vermont and Rowmark Ski Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah.

What a difference a year makes. Leaders of the ski industry were told today at the National Ski Areas Association Convention and Trade Show in Palm Springs, Calif. that skier and snowboarder visits jumped by 11 percent year-over-year.
