Long before I-90 was built through Lookout Pass ski pioneers took advantage of the abundant snow that falls here. They'd hop freight cars and jump off at the pass, then hike to the summit. A highway department storage shed served as a warming hut. Eventually the area got a home-built rope tow in the thirties, and people have been skiing Lookout in somewhat more comfort since then.
