Fall Ski Show Guide: Stoke, Deals And Fun

Skiers and riders look to the fall ski shows to decide on their ski vacation and getaway plans, discover improvements ski areas have made over the off-season, get deals on equipment, talk with manufacturers’ reps, and enjoy live entertainment.

Oct. 20-22: Windy City Ski and Snowboard Show, Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center, 1551 N. Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg, Ill. Hours: Fri., 3-10 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Adult admission $12; kids under 12 are free. Free parking.

Highlights: Two-for-one lift tickets to Big Snow Resort. Prizes and lift ticket giveaways; pro skier and snowboarder appearances; movie theatre premiere; top local retailers at huge super sale.

Oct. 21-22: Explore Minnesota Slopes Ski & Snowboard Expo. Mall of America, 60 E. Broadway, Bloomington, Minn. Hours: 10 a.m.- 9:30 p.m. No admission or parking fees.

Highlights: The Expo will showcase more than a dozen ski hills from around the state as well as area retailers and businesses. Visit the variety of booths to get the best deals on season passes and lift tickets.

Oct. 21-22: Ottawa Ski, Snowboard And Travel Show, Ernst & Young Centre, Hall 3, 4899 Uplands Drive at Airport Parkway, Ottawa, ON.  Hours: Sat., and Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Free admission; $8 on site parking. 

Highlights: Over 10,000 square feet of retail space with 50-70 percent off apparel, alpine, cross country and snowboard equipment and accessories. Over 100 local and destination ski and travel resorts promoting ski show specials.

Oct. 26-29: Toronto Snow Show, International Centre, Hall 5, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON, Hours: Thurs., 3-10 p.m., Fri., Noon-10 p.m., Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: Adults $18; Juniors (11-17) and Seniors (65 plus) $10; children (10 and under) free with an adult; Family Pass (2 adults + 2 children) $45.

Highlights: Action Zone with The Ski Simulator, roller ski demos, alpine racing game, Burton Riglet Park, VR Experience, Snow Valley tube rides; ski and board swap; free grade 4/5 Canada Wide Ski Pass; Ontario Zone with Buy-One-Get-One-Free ticket deal.

Oct. 28-29: Snowbomb Santa Clara Ski & Snowboard Festival, Santa Clara Convention Center, 50001 Great American Parkway. Santa Clara, Calif. Hours: Sat., 12-8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: General entry $5.

Highlights: Powder Pass $25 (admission, one free lift ticket to Bear Valley, China Peak, Sierra-at-Tahoe). VIP Pass $50 (admission, free lift ticket to Powder Pass areas and buy one, get one free lift ticket to Squaw Valley /Alpine Meadows).

Nov. 3-5: Northeast Ski & Craft Beer Showcase, Albany Capital Center, 55 Eagle St., Albany, N.Y. Hours: Fri., 4-9 p.m., Sat., 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Sun., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission: Adults $10 ($25 for three-day value pass) online, $12 at the door; kids under 10 free with paid adult. Free parking in Times Union Center parking garage.

Highlights: The latest ski and snowboard gear, winter apparel, free lift tickets for the first 500 guests each day and craft beer garden, all at a new location. Ultimate Freestyle Show, an indoor ski and snowboard rail exhibition featuring semi-pro athletes.

Nov. 3-5: Portland SkiFever & Snowboard Show, Portland Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive, Portland, Ore. Hours: Fri., 1-10 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sun., 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission: adults $14; juniors (6-12) $3; under 6 free. Discounts online .
