Snow Forecast: Weakening La Nina Means More Snow Through March

As suggested in this column a couple of weeks ago, the pattern across the country has become more active, and snow is now falling with more regularity and coverage than it has through much of this season.
Active doesn't necessarily mean cold, and for the time being, the amount of arctic air working its' way into country is somewhat limited. But it is mid-February, than that means that despite the arctic connection, there is enough cold air around for snow.
A couple of weeks ago we had an upper level ridge blocking Pacific systems from making landfall in the West, and we couldn't buy any sort of storm threat in the East, but as the La Nina has started to weaken, the southern branch of the jet stream has come alive, and that has provided one of the prime ingredients for snow in both the West and the East, and that is the sort of pattern we are looking at for the rest of this month and on into March.
