Have an interest in ski and snowboard history? Then, here are the places you’ll want to be April 8-15, 2012: Oregon, Seattle and the historic ski mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

Skiing Heritage Week is co-produced by the International Skiing History Association (ISHA) and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame. The event combines skiing and snowboarding at mountains that cradled the earliest days of American skiing, with a chance to mingle with the biggest names of the sport’s storied past.

Highlight of the week will be the induction of the Hall of Fame Class of 2012 in ceremonies at Bell Harbor Center Saturday, April 18. That event will include a salute to K2, one of America’s pioneering ski manufacturers, celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Inductees will include the late Nick Badami and Mason Beekley; Dick Dorworth; Phil Gravink; Harry Leonard; Joe Pack; Tyler Palmer; and Eva Twardokens.

Events during the week include skiing or snowboarding at Timberline Lodge, Mount Hood Meadows, White Pass, Crystal Mountain, Mount Rainier, Stevens Pass, and Snoqualmie.

“Numerous milestones in the growth of skiing and snowboarding have come out of the Northwest,” Hall of Fame Chairman Bernie Weichsel told SnoCountry.com. “There have been numerous international competitions, innovations in equipment, resort operations, and even publicity – Ski Magazine started in Seattle 75 years ago.”

There are two ways to participate in Skiing Heritage Week. You can register for the entire package beginning Sunday, April 8 in Oregon and concluding with the induction banquet in Seattle for $1,585 or $1,795 (depending on the choice of hotels). Or, you can join the event in Seattle and go à la carte for hotel room, functions, and skiing and riding.
