MT. HOOD MEADOWS, Oregon - It was another day of titles for U.S. Snowboarding's Michelle Gorgone (Boston) and Zac Kay (Mount Shasta, CA) as each pulled in their second this weekend, becoming parallel slalom U.S. champs during NorAm finals at Mt. Hood Meadows Sunday.

Gorgone and Kay both won the parallel giant slalom titles on Saturday during the event, which doubled as the U.S. Championships for PSL.

"It's awesome. It's great to have this title. It was a little bit different from yesterday. It was really bumpy and there were a couple of times where you'd think you were done for and then you could sneak through," Gorgone said. "All and all it was pretty good. It gives me a lot of motivation for nest year. Ending well makes you want to train hard and get ready for next year."

Gorgone came in second for the event behind Canadian Alexa Loo, but she retained the national title because it can only be awarded to an American.

Kay, who said it was his goal to win the PGS title this year, was pleasantly surprised by his title win in PSL.

"It feels awesome. I had no expectations for today. I was super tired because I gave it my all yesterday and I just lucked out," Kay said. "I'm just totally excited and I can't even put words to it. I wasn't expecting it at all, but I just concentrated on riding my own race each round and it worked out in the end."

U.S. Snowboarding's Tyler Jewell (Steamboat Springs, CO) finished second and Teammate Chris Klug (Aspen, CO) was third.

"Both of them are double national champions and that's awesome," said Alpine Head Coach Steve Persons. "I think we'll go into next season with a lot of confidence."

This event marks the end of the 2008 alpine snowboarding season. It was one of the best in recent years for the alpine snowboarders, with World Cup podiums from Gorgone, Jewell, Adam Smith (Bend, OR) and Justin Reiter (Steamboat Springs, CO).
